Gepamani Pakiathai, also known as Jeba, has been involved in social work for the past 27 years. In 1994, a Chinese mentally retarded girl was referred to her. Ann Tan Swee Lan was an abandoned child and Jeba has been fostering her since then. Until today, Ann is totally under her support and care.
Looking after and caring for such a special child as Ann had inspired Jeba to start a new home, known as Ann's Cottage. This home was started on 3rd October 2002 and is intended mainly for girls requiring special care (mental retardation, etc), and single mothers and their children. This home is functioning in a double-storey corner house with four bedrooms, three bathrooms, and a small kitchen.
After many years of total and selfless commitment in this caring ministry - to which Jeba had been called in 1980 - Jeba had felt that it was time for her to concentrate on Ann because she is now in her adolescence and in need of a lot of love and care. Because of this, Jeba had resigned from HELP Home and started Ann's Cottage on a small scale with her own finances to help support others like Ann as well as single mothers and their children. This integration between special children and normal children has helped Ann to learn and adjust to many condittions and circumstances surrounding her.
Since this home is currently being financed by Jeba's own savings and public donations - which are dwindling fast - help is very much needed. They are looking for financial support from churches and individuals to come alongside them in this worthy cause. This home is currently pursuing official registration.
